I wrote this in November 2000 after the death of my grandson, Randall Emit Patrick (Randy). He passed away after a year battling cancer. Various people have used it at funeral services for those they love, over the years, particularly children and teens who've battled diseases. When the child was female, we've just changed the man-child to woman-child, and the he to she.
I give my permission for anyone who wishes to use this in a funeral service for their loved one, and request only that my name is shown as the author in any printed programme.
I'll see you in the rainbow when the showers give way to sun,
and in the early morning when the day has just begun;
I'll hear you in the Winter as the wind blows through the trees,
whether strong as fiercest hurricane or gentle summer breeze.
In snow flakes falling softly, and blossom buds in May,
there's much will make me think of you, it's sad you've gone away.
But, you are in a better place, and finally at peace.
your spirit lives forever, no more pain, no more disease.
And in the hearts of we, the ones you've loved and left behind,
There'll always be a something, that will bring your face to mind.
So, onward guardian angels, keep this man-child safe with you,
uplift his innocent spirit that he may begin his life anew,
unhampered by the agonies of life here on this Earth,
for he has passed from this world to the one of his rebirth.
